QT1515 installs the Outer Axle Shaft to Knuckle Seal which is item 16 in the Shaft, Hub, Brake, and Steering Components Full Color Exploded View that is included in these 4x4 Tech Publications: TSB4644, TM4637, and TM4688. Tech Note 2: Seal Installation
(About Knuckle Seal Installation) Ford Excursion and 1999 to 2004 Ford Super Duty® axle shaft to knuckle seals are just about the toughest seals to install we have ever come across. The seal is of a complicated unitized design that is easily damaged without the correct installer. In fact, the knuckle seal is virtually impossible to install without damage unless a tool like this one piece, rugged 10+ pound QT1515 Knuckle Seal Installer used to drive or press the seal on. Not only is the seal an extremely tight fit to the shaft, it also must be installed to a specific depth on both the axle shaft and in the knuckle. A damaged seal will allow water to enter and vacuum to escape.

Tech Note 3: Seal Type
Ford used both unshielded and shielded axle shaft to steering knuckle seals for Excursion and 1999-2004 Super Duty®. QU40233 Unshielded Seal was the original equipment Seal for 1999-2002 models. This affordable Seal will ALSO fit 2003-2005 Excursion and 2003-2004 Super Duty® 4x4s. QU20035 Shielded Seal were only used on 2003-2005 models, they WILL NOT fit older axle shafts!

Tech Note 4: Not for 2005 & Newer Super Duty®
QT1515 cannot be used on 2005 and newer Super Duty® front axles as both the axle shaft and seal are of different design. Please see TS1530 (F250, F350) or TS1531 (F450, F550) for 2005-up axles.
