03-04 Ford Superduty And 03-05 Ford Excursion 2nd Design Knuckle Seal Kit With Installer

QK4846 2nd Design Knuckle and Hub Seal Kit with QT1515 Installer (Old Kit number was QK4610S) Save $$ over buying individually priced QT1515 Seal Installer plus the seals and o-rings that need to be replaced anytime your 2003 to 2004 Ford Super Duty® or 2003 to 2005 Ford Excursion axle shafts are removed. QK4846 Kit includes QT1515 Axle Shaft to Knuckle Seal Installer, plus two each: QU20035 Shielded Knuckle Seals, QU20023 Wheel Hub O-Rings, and QU20044 Hub-Lock O-Rings. This Kit is specific to 2003-2004 Ford Super Duty® Front Axles so it will NOT work on 1999-2002 axle shafts that originally were equipped with an unshielded seal. For a Kit with Unshielded Seals, see QK4610.

Tech Note 1: Seal Design Change
(About Knuckle Seal Design Change) This shielded Seal with metal deflector to protect the seal from road debris is the 2nd design knuckle seal design which was used from 2003 to 2004 (Super Duty) or 2005 (Excursion). A 1st design, (QU40233) without the protective metal deflector shield on the inboard side was introduced in 2002 calendar year as a 2003 model year part. The early QU40233 seals will work on all 1999-2004 Super Duty's. The QU20035 Shielded Seal shown above will only fit outer axles with a step diameter of approximately 3.115". Most Trucks built prior to mid 2002 will have outer shafts with a step diameter of 3.210", which will not accept the shielded seal. We recommend you order replacement seals that match the seal type your truck originally came with. Our new, QU40318 series replacement outer axle shafts have the 3.115" step and can be used with either seal style.

Tech Note 2: Seal Installation
(About Knuckle Seal Installation) 2003-2005 Ford Excursion and 2003-2004 Ford Super Duty® axle shaft to knuckle seals are just about the toughest seals to install we have ever come across. The seal is of a complicated unitized design that is easily damaged without the correct installer. In fact, the knuckle seal is virtually impossible to install without damage unless a tool like our one piece, rugged 12 pound QT1515 Knuckle Seal Installer is used to drive or press the seal on. Not only is the seal an extremely tight fit to the shaft, it also must be installed to a specific depth on both the axle shaft and in the knuckle. A damaged seal will allow water to enter and vacuum to escape.
