Rudy's Diesel Valvetrain Upgrades are designed for those looking to eliminate issues common when running higher boost applications or higher revving trucks. When you exceed 65 psi on either exhaust back pressure or boost the stock valvetrain becomes a weak link and you can experience valve float. When valves float they contact the pistons and cause major engine damage, to eliminate this we have designed kits to ensure your truck survives. Valvesprings are a drop-in design and require no machining. With these kits Rudy's Diesel also highly recommends upgraded pushrods.
- Stage 1- Includes upgraded springs. 125 lbs/in Seat Pressure.
- Stage 1.5 - Includes springs, chromoly locks, and chromoly retainers. 145 lbs/in Seat Pressure.
- Stage 2 - Includes springs, chromoly locks, and chromoly retainers. 145 lbs/in Seat Pressure. Stage 2 springs are polished to removed stress risers and extend the life of the spring. Stage 2 springs are a perfect match for any of our billet cams or for extra reliability with smaller or stock cams.
- Stage 3 - Includes everything from S2 but upgrades to Titanium retainers for less mass. This kit is for the high end application and not meant for long term reliability.
Chromoly locks and retainers eliminate the chance of having the valve drop or "pull through" resulting in engine damage.
Rudy's Diesel Chromoly Push Rods-At High rpm, and/or high boost/backpressure pushrods begin to flex. Pushrod flex can limit performance and even cause power loss due to lack of valve lift. Eliminate pushrod flex with our 4130 Chromoly pushrods. We offer 2 stages. Our Stage 1 pushrods are a drop-in replacement for the factory units, just much stronger. Our Stage 2 pushrods are stronger than our Stage 1 pushrods (by being larger in diameter and having a greater wall thickness) but they require trimming the pushrod hole in the head gasket to allow clearance.
Compare to the competition our pushrods are:
- Stage 1 - 5/16" x .116" wall thickness
- Stage 2 - 3/8" x .145" wall thickness
More wall thickness leads to less deflection (bending) of the pushrod under higher pressure.
