Fits: 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The actuator controls the wastegate (or variable-geometry vanes) inside the turbocharger housing. For a 6.7 L Powerstroke, the wastegate mechanism regulates exhaust flow through the turbine, affecting boost (turbo) pressure, spool-up, and overall engine performance. The engine’s control module (PCM) — via a vacuum-regulating solenoid (or equivalent) — modulates vacuum to the actuator, which moves the diaphragm/rod to open or close the wastegate. This modulation allows precise control over boost depending on load, RPM, throttle demand, etc. A functioning actuator ensures correct turbo behavior: smooth boost delivery, proper power output, acceptable exhaust/back-pressure levels, and prevents overboost or underboost conditions. If the actuator fails (diaphragm leak, stuck valve, broken linkage), the turbo may not regulate properly — resulting in loss of power, erratic boost, or turbo damage over time.
