Heavy Duty Fasteners & Studs for the 5.9L Cummins Diesel. Pure Diesel Power offers rod bolts, standard and extra long main studs, headstuds by A1 and ARP along with accessories such as bottoming taps and ARP Ultra Torque Assembly Lube.

Please keep in mind when ordering parts:
All engine blocks 1997.5 & newer have "Encore" blocks. (these have 2 turbo oil return holes on the passenger side of the block)
They have 12mm main studs and must be drilled & tapped to 14mm x 2.00 to allow use of 14mm head studs.
89-97.0 Engine blocks have 14mm main bolts, so no modification is needed to use 14mm main studs.
All Cummins 5.9L engines 89-07 have 12mm head studs from the factory and require drilling & tapping to accept 14mm head studs.

STUDS vs. BOLTS
ARP recommends the use of main studs over bolts whenever possible for several
key reasons. First is the ability to obtain more accurate torque readings because
studs don’t “twist” into the block. All clamping forces are on one axis. By the
same token, there is less force exerted on the block threads, which contributes to
improved block life (very critical on aluminum blocks). Finally, there are factors
of easier engine assembly and proper alignment of caps every time.

There are many important reasons to use ARP main stud kits, including the elimination of main cap walk and fretting, as well as protecting the threads in your engine block. All kits come complete with hardened parallel-ground washers and high quality nuts. Some applications have provisions for mounting windage trays and have specially designed standoff studs with serrated lock nuts to position the windage tray and lock it securely in place. The studs are manufactured from 8740 chrome molysteel, heat-treated in-house to 200,000 psi tensile strength, and precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat to create a fastener that has threads 1000% stronger than others

    We recommend you bottom-tap your engine block head-stud threads when installing 12mm ARP or A1 head studs to ensure maximum clamping force. Some Cummins blocks are not threaded completely.
