The Hamilton Cams 07-C-178/208 Camshaft is the most efficient cam tested for the 1989-2018 Dodge 5.9L/6.7L Cummins. On a moderate street truck, it will net you the best economy out of all Hamiltom Cams. Due to its short duration and wide lobe separation angle, it also has the least overlap (when intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time) of any Hamilton cams to kill in cylinder EGR on engines that have higher drive pressure than boost pressure. This is usually found with stock turbos that have a very restrictive turbine housing or turbine wheel. In engines there is always a trade off for different performance parts.
On a truck with a 62mm turbo and 80hp injectors, this cam picked up 40hp at 1700rpm due to the fact that it moves so much air at lower rpms and helps the turbo spool much sooner. The trade off? It gives up power compared to our larger cams above 2600 rpm(still above a stock cam). If you live at high altitudes, tow heavy or are looking for the best efficiency possible for highway driving, this cam will help you considerably. Install with the intake from a 97-99 centerline.
Although it works great as an efficiency cam, it is also popular with common rail engines that have larger single turbos or that have larger valves and ports. Larger turbos typically have less low rpm response as do cylinder heads with large ports and/or large valves. In these applications, it will really help get large turbos spooled much earlier. Hamilton Cams are all Pre-Drilled for a cam gear bolt-on retainer. We recommend this option for 89-02 trucks. Select option above to add a retainer.
This is generally a drop in cam. If your head or block has been decked it is your responsibility to check your valve-piston clearance.

Shop around and ask others how wide their lobes are. If they say their cam is made just for them, ask them if their name is cast into the cam. I bet you it isn’t!
We are here to get you the absolute best cam for your specific truck, the first time.
Keep in mind that some Cummins cam gears have slightly different offsets built in. We suggest you inspect your tappet for wear. If they are worn either get them reground, or get new ones.
If you are installing this cam in a 12 Valve, please replace the factory tappets with tappets from a 1998.5-2002 24 valve for best longevity with low zinc oils.
On engines seeing over 50psi or over 500hp we also suggest Hamilton heavy duty pushrods.
Follow Cummins installation instructions, use adequate assembly lube, and add some of our zinc additive prior to startup, to ensure no break in damage due to the new low zinc oils on the market. Always keep the engine from starting until you visually verify that oil has made it all the way to the rocker arms.
To modify installed centerline, use Mopar performance offset keys part# p4349650. This offset key kit comes with 1°, 2°,3°,4° and 5° offset keys. Just remember 1° camshaft is 2° crankshaft since the crankshaft moves twice the speed of the cam. A basic degree wheel from Jegs or Summit, a small amount of wire and a dial indicator is all that is needed to degree a cam in.

110LB Springs are REQUIRED for 98.5+ Trucks running this cam or any cam with more than 300 lift or if you are running an aftermarket turbo with 40PSI boost or more.
Cam retainers are NOT to be used with 2003+ 5.9L & 6.7L Cummins engines unless your front cover has been modified for proper clearance.
